It’s fascinating to be able to watch and be a part of the development of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu around the world today.
The sport has changed a lot since I first started training in 2015.
Things are changing faster than ever before, reaching an unprecedented level, and this trend is going to continue over the next several years. I like to think that it could continue forever.
The masochism that I once felt for Jiu-Jitsu is fading — it’s starting to become a labor of love instead of just a labor. Gyms are using progressive styles, tasteful aesthetics, and much more than just “learning a skill” to attract members.
Likewise, the way I train today — and the way I’ve trained for the last year — is very different from the way I used to train.
I have a different mindset in training today than I did even just a year ago.
But is this because Jiu-Jitsu is changing or is it because I’m changing?
